To competently and professionally provide proactive Management and Leadership support and coaching to the assigned market and ensure that the Strategic and Operational outcomes are consistently achieved. To further model and articulate the overall Company's strategic direction, philosophies and goals, while staying within the defined scope of authority and responsibilities of the overall function at all times.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To ensure that all direct reports have all the necessary skills to do their functions (model the negotiated behaviors) at the highest level of professionalism and competence at all times, by supporting and coaching them on an ongoing basis.
  • To maintain High Performance and effectively deal with Identified Non-Performance promptly (within 48 hours).
  • Ensure and support all direct reporting staff in doing their Performance evaluation semi-annually and monthly for sales.
  • To oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual comprehensive Strategic and Operational plans to ensure that the market's overall strategic direction is maintained and the operational outcomes are always met.
  • Lead an effective Organizational structure for the overall market.
  • Appropriately resource organization ensuring positions are filled with staff for the respective role with the ability to execute daily.
  • Oversee that the facility requirements are adequate for the staff and that the appropriate equipment, space allocation, safety, and supplies are accessible and available.
  • Meeting the defined and ongoing Sales and Programming needs (including Marketing and Promotions).
  • Overall responsible for local licensed engineering of the station.
  • Observe activities to ensure compliance with government regulations and protect the stations' licenses.
  • Establish professional relationships and manage vision of the company with clients and other business leaders in the community.
  • Ensure that an accurate annual market Budget is prepared, approved, implemented, managed, monitored, and met on an ongoing basis.
  • To ensure that an accurate monthly Forecast is prepared, reviewed with Corporate Finance, managed, monitored, and met.
  • Ensure that all relevant operational for each department Policies & Procedures are developed, implemented, managed, and monitored on an ongoing basis.
  • Lead and/or attend all relevant meetings (as defined by the function) on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure that all inter-departmental and inter-company communications (including quantity, quality, and frequency) are coordinated, maintained, and where relevant initiated, at the highest level of clarity, cooperation, propriety, and effectiveness at all times and on an ongoing basis.
  • Investigate and source any relevant personal and professional building events as they apply to the ongoing maintenance and strategic development of the function.
  • To stay current with all relevant strategic industry and competitive information as it applies to the overall job responsibility.
  • Lead the charge of enforcing FCC rules and regulations compliance for licensure of each station deadlines and following the FCC, Corporate, and Human Resources guidelines to protect against any legal actions.
  • Manage the work environment by maintaining or creating a positive culture. Implement a market-first outlook with management and collaborate department’s goals to achieve overall success.
  • Attend major station or market events and set positive examples for the team members.
  • Create, improve, or maintain relationships with clients, other media organizations, board members, political community leaders, and anyone who engages with the market and its stations.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to Develop and implement sales and marketing efforts to increase the station’s share of advertisement dollars.
  • Extensive knowledge of compliance with governmental regulations and SEC, FCC, and EEO agreements.
  • Continue to expand in industry knowledge by attending all skills-building workshops.
  • Must be a creative thinker and possess a high level of people skills. Ability to be multi-tasked, flexible, and work long hours including some weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Ability to analyze, and interpret general business documentation, technical procedures, and governmental regulations for FCC relating to media and on-air processes.
  • Lead interviewing, hiring process, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; provide performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, assess data, and interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
  • Assess the Professional Performance process (semi-annually) as supported and formalized by the Human Resources department.
  • Complies with Network and Urban One’s mandatory on-time and adheres to related course deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and direct a team to include but not limited to:
    • Provide regular constructive feedback.
    • Resolve issues/conflicts with diplomacy in a timely manner.
    • Provide ongoing guidance and support for growth and development.
    • Deploy effective coaching skills.
    • Practical understanding of anti-harassment and discrimination laws.
    • Ability to effectively administer performance reviews, and corrective action plans as appropriate.
    • Ensure team (s) attend mandatory department and/or mandatory company training (s) as required.
  • Submit to a criminal background check.
  • Legal right to work in the United States.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; MBA preferred. Prior General Manager experience is required. Six to eight years of related experience with thorough operational knowledge of all aspects of the radio and broadcasting industry.
